UNFPA emphasizes the importance of collaborating with media outlets like El Comercio, whose commitment to rigorous investigation has made it possible to bring to light the difficult realities faced by women affected by the recent climate crisis.

LIMA, Peru – The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Peru congratulates and highly values the achievement of El Comercio, Peruvian newspaper, whose report "El Niño Phenomenon: Women Isolated, Without Access to Health, Education, or Justice" has been awarded first place in the "Best News Report or Investigation" category at the GDA Awards. This investigation, the result of close collaboration with UNFPA, provides a deep and detailed perspective on how climate crises exacerbate gender inequality in the country, giving women a voice in extreme vulnerability situations.

"Isolated" reveals the harsh conditions these women face and highlights the power of joint efforts with strategic allies to bring these stories to a broader audience and generate significant impact. This recognition of El Comercio celebrates journalistic excellence and reinforces the need to join forces to raise awareness of complex challenges and highlight crucial issues affecting the most vulnerable populations.

"We are proud to have collaborated with El Comercio on 'Isolated,' a partnership that brings together the best of both parties to produce a report that not only informs but also inspires reflection and action to save lives and safeguard the well-being of women during humanitarian crises triggered by climate phenomena," commented Hugo González, UNFPA Representative in Peru.

This collaboration demonstrates how joint efforts between organizations and media outlets, as strategic allies, can catalyze to amplify messages about human rights and gender equity, directly impacting the lives of the most vulnerable. By combining the investigative capabilities of media like El Comercio with the technical expertise and humanitarian mission of UNFPA, content is created that not only reaches a broader audience but also has the power to influence public agendas and promote positive change.
