Job title: Intern, Communications

Location: UNFPA, Guardia Civil 1231 San Isidro Lima - Peru

Full/Pat-time: Full-time (approximately 40 hours per week)

Duration: 6 months (July 2020 to December 2020) 

 

 

The Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Communications Associate the intern will support the communications efforts of the UNFPA Peru County Office. 

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

You would be responsible for:

Under the supervision of the Communications Associate, the intern tasks and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  1. Design informational and visual products, including but not limited to leaflets, brochures, infographics, presentations, etc.
  2. Manage social media video [e.g., live streaming, IG Live, FB Live, Twitter, Live, etc.] including set-up, filming and editing.
  3. Identify, process and compile photo and video materials for press briefings, press statements, slideshows, presentations, etc.
  4. Edit and upload multimedia content, specially audio and video pieces, to be featured on UNFPA Peru communication platforms.
  5. Support the UNFPA communications social media strategy and operate live streaming events and other social media contents.
  6. Help organize events related to institutional communication strategies.
  7. Conduct research and brainstorm opportunities related to internal communications.
  8. Undertake lessons learned review of successful and unsuccessful communication experiences and share observations/findings with Communications Associate so that best practices benefit the Fund’s communication work.

You Have:

Your Education: Active enrolment or recent completion (either last year of B.A. or M.A. programme or first year after graduation) of any of the following professional careers: Social Communication, Journalism, Advertising or related.

Your Experiences:

  • Teamwork capacity.
  • Proficiency with digital marketing and social communication. Live streaming capabilities a big asset.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator and Premier, is required.
  • Very familiar with camera equipment operation (digital cameras, video recording cameras).
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.
  • Some experience in working with development agencies, including in volunteer capacity (desirable).

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:

  1. Increased understanding of the UNFPA and the Programme Division within UNFPA
  2. Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies, including regional set-up
  3. Understand the dynamics of operational and programme support and communications to the field, and at the level of HQ
  4. Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms
  5. Increased understanding of the social development and its key stakeholders within the country.
  6. Write and formulate substantive communicational documents
  7. Network with UN colleagues
  8. Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting
