The Position:

Under the direct supervision of the Disaster Risk Management specialist, the intern will support leadership responsibilities in humanitarian mechanisms and management of preparedness and humanitarian projects of the UNFPA Peru County Office. 

A work-plan with achievements for the duration of the Internship and learning opportunities will be agreed upon. Periodic progress meetings will lead to a beneficial environment for the Intern enhancing her/his skills and capacity in areas related to UNFPA’s mandate.

You would be responsible for:

The intern tasks and responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  1. Provide support in preparation of agendas and minutes, as well as coordination of meetings of groups or subgroups of humanitarian mechanisms led or co-led by UNFPA.
  2. Provide support to monitoring of Work Plans in area of responsibility.
  3. Provide support to preparation of monitoring and reports, as well as situation analysis (in English and Spanish), in area of responsibility.
  4. Provide support to design of project proposals in area of responsibility.
  5. Monitor press and periodic publications and prepare update reports on area of responsibility.
  6. Help organize events related to area of responsibility.
  7. Undertake lessons learned review of projects’ implementation and results and organize internal lessons learned sharing lessons in area of responsibility

You Have:

Your Education: Active enrolment or recent completion (either last year of B.A. or M.A. programme or first year after graduation) of any of the following professional careers: Political Science, Government, Economics, International Relations, or related.

 

Your Experiences:

  • Teamwork capacity.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills.

 

Learning Elements:

Upon completion of the assignment, and depending on its duration, the Intern will gain the following knowledge assets:

  1. Increased understanding of the UNFPA and the Programme Division within UNFPA
  2. Understand the UNFPA mandate and policies, including regional set-up
  3. Understand the dynamics of operational and programme support and communications to the field, and at the level of HQ
  4. Learn UN technical language, working procedures, and coordination mechanisms
  5. Increased understanding of the social development and its key stakeholders within the country.
  6. Write and formulate substantive c documents
  7. Network with UN colleagues
  8. Work experience as a team member in a multicultural setting

 

Financial Aspects:

Where any institution does not financially support an intern or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme, a stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station, must be paid by the receiving office.

The monthly amount of the stipend will be determined for each duty station based on the stipend rates published yearly by the OHR Policy and Compensation Unit. The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.

For Peru in 2020 this amount is 1,278.00 PEN. No other payments of any kind will be made to an intern by the office in connection with an internship agreement.

Interns will accrue leave at the rate of 1 ½ days per month. Any accrued leave days not used by the end of the internship will be forfeited. Any unjustified absences during the internship period exceeding a total of nine days, will be deducted from the monthly stipend.

Interns are responsible for securing adequate medical insurance for the duration of their internship with UNFPA and must provide a medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship. UNFPA will not reimburse the medical insurance of the intern. Any costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.
