Gregor von Medeazza is the Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Peru and Country Director for Chile. A German national born in Brussels, he brings more than 25 years of experience in international development cooperation and humanitarian action, including 18 years of service with UNICEF.
Throughout his career, he has held senior leadership roles, including serving as Acting Representative in Bolivia and Namibia, and has led large-scale teams and programmes across diverse contexts. He has coordinated development programmes and humanitarian responses in countries including Syria, Palestine and the Gaza Strip, Mali, Haiti, Mozambique, India, Ukraine and Guinea-Bissau, among others.
He has advanced sexual and reproductive health and rights programmes in collaboration with UNFPA and UN Women, and has supported public policy reforms in social protection, gender equality and adolescent participation. He also brings extensive experience in building partnerships with governments, civil society, academia, the private sector and international financial institutions, as well as previous experience with the Inter-American Development Bank and the European Union.
He holds a PhD in Economics and a Master’s degree in Engineering from Imperial College London. He has also completed executive studies in leadership and crisis management at Harvard Kennedy School, the University of Oxford, INSEAD, Cornell University and Johns Hopkins University. He speaks six languages.
